We thought last month was exciting when the Idaho Fish and Game announced that they would stock more than 110,000 fish in lakes, rivers, and ponds around Idaho. Now we are excited again because in April, there will be nearly double that amount of catchable trout stocked in Idaho waters.

Some of the stocking has already happened, but there are still thousands of fish waiting to be transported...and then caught by you.

Here’s Where and When 214,000 Fish Will Be Stocked in Idaho This Month

Last month, we spent a lot of time fishing at Dierkes Lake and caught dozens of fish, so we are excited to see Dierkes on the list of lakes to be stocked this month. We went out to Salmon Dam once and didn’t even get a bite after 4 hours of fishing. Other people said they had caught fish that same weekend.

Maybe we’ll branch out to other lakes this month. With 214,000 trout being stocked, we should be able to have better luck than we had at Salmon. The full list is on the IDFG website, but here are a few of the notable locations in each region of Idaho.

  • Panhandle Region - Kelso and Round Lake are each getting 2,500 trout.
  • Clearwater Region - Mann Lake is getting 6,300 yellow (banana) trout, and Winchester Lake is getting 6,000 rainbow trout.
  • Southwest Region - Cascade reservoir will get 25,000 rainbow trout, Horsethief Reservoir gets 14,790 trout, and Lucky Peak Reservoir will be stocked with 13,550 rainbow trout.
  • Magic Valley Region - Cedar Creek Reservoir is getting 11,000 trout. Dierkes will be loaded with 4,000 rainbow trout, Gavers Lagoon (Hayspur) is getting 1,425 trout, and Thorn Creek Reservoir will get 2,800.
  • Southeast Region - Bear River is scheduled to get 2,500 trout, 30 thousand will be stocked in the Blackfoot Reservoir, and 8,000 rainbow trout will be stocked in the Snake River below the American Falls Dam at Three Layer Park.
  • Upper Snake Region - 2,400 rainbow trout will be stocked in the Snake River at John’s Hole and South Tourist Park.
  • Salmon Region - Hayden Creek Pond will get 1,100 trout.
