A portion of a Southern Idaho highway was closed for at least four hours, as multiple wrecks were reported during an intense wind storm. The road was closed by the Idaho State Police for a time due to accidents that were happening, and then closed for additional time by the Idaho Transportation Department due to dangerous driving conditions with the dust and wind gusts.

The accidents are being investigated by the Idaho State Police.

ISP and ITD Close Section of Southern Idaho Highway Due to Multiple Wrecks and Dangerous Weather Concerns

In a news release from the Idaho State Police on Thursday, we learn that multiple accidents happened on Interstate 15 around mile marker 113 in Idaho Falls. I-15 was closed between exit 113 and 108 in both directions for 4 hours. ISP also shared a video and pictures from the scene to show the dangerous driving conditions in the area.

ISP troopers also responded to a similar situation with accidents and wind-induced dangerous driving conditions on US-26 between Ririe and Swan Valley to the east of Idaho Falls.

The Idaho Transportation Department also posted an alert on Facebook about the road closure.

Bad weather is expected to return at times this weekend. Drivers should stay alert and check Idaho 511 for road conditions and alerts.
