According to Deloitte’s annual holiday retail survey, shoppers are planning to hit up the fewest stores on record this upcoming holiday shopping season which comes as no surprise. Coronavirus shook up the retail industry to a point where more than a dozen major retailers have filed for bankruptcy. On the other end of things, consumers don't have the money to spend because of their own finical situations.

Businesses have been making adjustments since March to accommodate social distancing mandates. We've seen not only retailers, but also restaurants begin offering curbside pickup and contactless checkout. Some retailers have even abandoned Black Friday altogether. For example, say goodbye to those early Thanksgiving Day openings and “doorbuster” deals this year.

One of biggest retailers and most popular Black Friday destinations is stepping out the box a bit and taking things to the next level. Target will now be offering "shopping appointments." That's right! You'll be making an actual reservation to shop in-store at Target this year. By visiting you'll be able to check on the status of the line outside of the store and reserve a spot. You'll then be notified when it's your turn to shop.

Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail in New York told The Washington Post, “Given that Target is a very popular holiday destination, the new system makes sense in terms of both keeping people safe and giving customers a convenient tool that prevent them having to wait ages outside the store."
