UPDATE: This Crash in Idaho Was the 5th Fatal Accident in May

STORY UPDATE: Since this story was published Friday evening, the number of injuries and fatalities in Idaho car crashes has more than doubled. An accident Saturday morning killed 6 people and sent 10 to the hospital.

A single-vehicle rollover crash in Central Idaho has become the 5th fatality accident in the state since the beginning of May.

4 of the accidents where someone was reported as deceased by the Idaho State Police were single-vehicle accidents, including one that was updated from an injury accident after the driver passed away in the hospital.

Riggins Crash is the 5th Fatal Accident This Month in Idaho

The latest fatality accident happened on Thursday, May 16th around 1:30 in the afternoon. The single-vehicle accident was a rollover south of Riggins on Old Pollock Road. The ISP reports states:

A 23-year-old male from Riggins was driving southbound on Old Pollock Road, in a 1996 Ford F350 pickup. The vehicle lost control on the roadway before it overturned and came to rest approximately 20 feet down a steep embankment. The male driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Family members of the deceased have been contacted and Idaho State Police will continue to investigate the tragic accident.

Fatal Accidents on Idaho Highways in May

May started off without many accidents reported by the Idaho State Police. On May 1st, they reported 2 crashes - one near Atomic City between a Toyota Corolla and a Nissan Cube, and the other was a single-vehicle rollover accident north of Challis where the female driver ended up passing away at the scene.

There wasn’t another accident reported until early May 13th, regarding a deadly crash that happened around 9:20 the night before. In that accident, a female passenger on a motorcycle was killed when they struck a deer. Since that accident there have been 5 others reported, 3 of which were fatal accidents. Idaho State Police also updated a previous injury accident from April to a fatality after the driver of a vehicle passed away at the hospital.

The 3 other fatality accidents were:

• May 15: Ford Escape vs Volvo Tractor Trailer. Female Ford driver killed in crash.
• May 15: Freightliner Semi-truck slams into 5 vehicles, killing 1 driver and sending 2 others to the hospital.
