Why Was the Highway East of Twin Falls Blocked for 6 Hours This Morning

Idaho State Police have reported that on Monday morning, just a few minutes before 6, an accident happened on State Highway 50 at milepost 4.5 near the Hansen Bridge. The report states:

A 55-year-old male from Kimberly, Idaho was driving EB on SH50 in a 2015 Freightliner hauling a trailer loaded with lumber. A vehicle travelling northbound on N 3800 E failed to yield at the intersection, and the semi driver braked to avoid a collision. The load of lumber shifted and partially came loose, blocking both lanes of travel for approximately 6 hours.

The lanes are open now.

Many people wondered why the road was closed this morning for such a long time. The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office posted information and an update on social media with pictures of the accident and the lumber strewn across the road.

Update on Road Closure Near Twin Falls Due to a Failed Canal

TFCSO also shared an update on the road closure south of Hansen where a canal bank had failed and the road had been closed so the Twin Falls Canal Company could fix it.

While the road is open, crews will still need to determine if any damage was done to the street that would require repairs after the flooding.
