Idaho Task Force Investigating Fatal Officer Involved Shooting

The Idaho State Police have shared the details of a fatal incident involving a police officer and a citizen driver during a traffic stop. The incident happened in Minidoka County near Heyburn and is being investigated by a Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) from the Jerome County Sheriff’s Office.

Idaho Critical Incident Task Force Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

The shooting happened a few minutes before 5 PM on Monday, August 17th in Minidoka County. An Idaho State Police trooper pulled over a 2000 Chevy truck driven by a 31-year-old male in the 700 block of W 400 S.

During the traffic stop, the trooper requested additional help and then reported gunfire. The driver of the Chevy was shot and passed away. The trooper was not injured.

According to the Idaho State Police news release, a Critical Incident Task Force is:

a team of investigators and professional staff from local law enforcement agencies who provide investigative and other assistance to law enforcement agencies in police use of force and other critical incidents.

The incident is being investigated by law enforcement from Jerome since the shooting involved an Idaho State Police trooper. The ISP trooper has been placed on leave while the incident is investigated.
