The crash happened on September 8th, a few minutes after 4 PM, on Interstate 90 near Post Falls in northern Idaho. These are the vehicles and occupants involved in the accident, according to the news release from the Idaho State Police:
- A gray 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by a 58-year-old male from Livingston, Montana
- A 2024 Volvo semi-truck, occupied by a 38-year-old male and a 37-year-old female, both from Spokane, Washington

- A white 2019 Toyota Tundra pickup truck occupied by a 34-year-old male from Priest River, Idaho
Idaho State Police believe the Prius was traveling east on I-90 and failed to negotiate a curve. The car crossed the median into westbound traffic and struck the rear end of the Volvo semi-truck trailer. The Prius and trailer sustained significant damage, and the driver of the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to the Prius and Volvo, two pickup trucks were struck and sustained minor damage. None of the occupants in the semi-truck or pickup trucks reported injuries.
