
Dust Storm Causes 5 Vehicle Injury Accident in Southern Idaho
The Idaho State Police have shared the details of a highway accident that happened in Southern Idaho on Wednesday during a dust storm. Wind speeds reached over 50 miles per hour on Wednesday afternoon in some areas of Idaho.
The accident involved five vehicles and injured three people.
Idaho State Police Report 3 People From Wyoming Injured in Dust Storm Accident
The crash happened at 4:44 PM in southeast Idaho near Soda Springs on State Highway 34 at mile marker 68. The crash is being investigated by the Idaho State Police, who shared these four key details that factored into the accident:
- A 2024 Toyota Prius, driven by a 49-year-old-male with a 20-year-old male passenger and a 50-year-old female passenger all from Etna, WY., were traveling northbound on SH34.
- A 1996 Dodge Dakota driven by a 28-year-old male from Pocatello, ID., a 2005 Acura driven by a 23-year-old female from Preston, ID., and a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 25-year-old male from Soda Springs, ID., were stopped ahead waiting for a dust storm to pass.
- The Toyota Prius attempted to pass the stopped vehicles. When it attempted to re-enter the northbound lane of travel it blocked the southbound lane.
- A 2005 Dodge Ram driven by a 66-year-old male from Soda Springs, ID., traveling northbound on SH34, attempted to pass all vehicles, side swiped the Silverado, struck the Prius, and caused the Dakota to collide with the Acura.
The three occupants of the Prius were taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance. No other injuries were reported.

Another recent accident report from the ISP detailed a crash involving a school bus as it was stopped to load children. Two people were injured in the crash.
