Driver Arrested in Idaho Following High Speed Pursuit in Jerome

Southern Idaho Police arrested a man from Texas following a high-speed pursuit on Monday morning. No injuries were reported, but the driver was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

The driver allegedly stole a truck, ran from police, attempted to hit an ISP vehicle, crashed into a corn field, and tried to enter a residential home before surrendering to the police.

The incident began on Monday, July 20th, around 8:10 AM when the Idaho State Police received a message from police in Caldwell that a stolen vehicle with a GPS tracking device had pinged in Jerome. Using the data from the GPS tracker, Caldwell Police provided information that helped ISP track down the vehicle.

When ISP troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, a 2017 GMC box truck driven by a 33-year-old male from Texas, the driver fled. An 18-mile pursuit followed.

During the pursuit, the driver drove recklessly, attempted to ram an ISP patrol vehicle, and continued fleeing despite tire deflation efforts.
The pursuit ended when the truck left the roadway and crashed in a cornfield.

The driver made contact with a nearby homeowner, who notified the police. The suspect then ran away again, but shortly after, surrendered without further incident.

The driver was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He will most likely be booked into the Jerome County Jail once released from the hospital. Charges could include: felony eluding, aggravated assault on a police officer, grand theft, and resisting and obstructing.
