We just got some bad news this morning that the Twin Falls Motor-Vu Drive In is shutting down. There was a break in a water line over the winter that went unnoticed and caused a lot of damage making the cost to repair (along with the difficulty in finding 35mm film that the theater uses) outweigh the benefits.
As with the Tasmanian Wolves, Black Rhinos, Polar Bears, and VHS, we are witnessing a mass extinction: the death of an American Icon, the Drive-In Movie Theater. These once plentiful meccas of entertainment and fun are being lost amidst the Digital Evolution.
The drive-ins are hosting a carload special this weekend. Just $10 Dollars and “KOOL” written on a piece of paper gets your entire carload into the Motor-Vu and the Grand-Vu drive-in.
Saturday night, for the first time ever, I took the whole family to the Motor Vu Drive-In to see Despicable Me 2! The kids loved it and the movie was hilarious. The sad news is that the drive-in may have to shut down, but you have a chance to save it! You can vote every day to save the Motor Vu Drive-In.
A piece of American history is vanishing: Drive-In Movies.Twin Falls is in danger of losing both of our Drive-In movies, but Honda is giving us a way to help with Project Drive-In.
You can help save the Motor-Vu Drive-In!
I think that most people have a good memory of being at the Drive In Theater...especially if you grew up in the 60's and 70's :) Times are changing though and everything is going digital and this could mean the end of our local Drive Ins.
