I think that most people have a good memory of being at the Drive In Theater...especially if you grew up in the 60's and 70's :) Times are changing though and everything is going digital and this could mean the end of our local Drive Ins. UPDATE - The Drive In will open on March 22nd in time for spring break!

Right now the Drive In plays movies from 35mm film, but studios seem to be cutting back on that format and only want to send digital versions to theaters. This could end up costing the theater $100,000 in equipment. Below is the statement from their Facebook page.

The Motor Vu was the first Drive In to open in Idaho and one of the first in the entire Intermountain area.
We are working very hard on keeping the Drive In's open. They currently use 35 mm film which is becoming obsolete. We have to upgrade to Digital which will cost upwards of $100,000. This is the reason there are not many Drive In's around. With that said this could be our last season having the Drive In's open unless we are able to make this conversion. We hope to keep this landmark open and continue to serve the Magic Valley.

You can help keep this landmark alive - LIKE their Facebook page to get them to open the Drive In for Spring Break and make some money to cover the cost of going digital.
