On Thursday morning, the Idaho State Police responded to two fatal accidents in Eastern Idaho. One accident involved a semi-truck rollover and the other an ATV rider and a van.

ISP also reported response to two other serious injury accidents in news releases.

Semi Truck Driver and ATV Rider Killed in Idaho Road Accidents on Thursday Morning

Idaho State Police reported that the fatal semi-truck accident happened on August 27th, around 10:47 AM on US 93 at mile marker 154. The driver of the semi was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened.

A 2005 Peterbilt Semi-truck, driven by a 51-year-old male from Ammon, was hauling a trailer loaded with gravel and traveling northbound on US93.

The vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and traveled into the borrow pit.

The driver attempted to correct the vehicle back onto the roadway.

The tractor returned to the road, but the trailer was still in the borrow pit when the tractor and trailer became detached.

The tractor rolled once and came to rest on its wheels.

The trailer overturned onto its top.

The driver of the semi-truck passed away at the scene of the accident. Custer County, where the accident happened, is classified as Eastern Idaho by the Idaho State Police.

The second fatal accident happened less than an hour later in Bear Lake County at 11:12 AM on North Road, in Ovid.

A 71-year-old male, of Ovid, Idaho, was riding a 2014 Polaris Sportsman, eastbound on North Road.

A 22-year-old male, of Nibley, Utah, was traveling in a 2021 GMC Savana, westbound on North Road.

The driver of the Polaris abruptly swerved to avoid colliding with the GMC and lost control.

The Polaris went off the south side of the road, impacted a concrete barrier, and overturned.

The elderly driver of the ATV was taken to a local hospital, but passed away from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet.

Both accidents are being investigated by ISP.
