The weather is turning chilly as each day goes by...but that won't keep CSI from doing events!

1.       “Earth in the Crosshairs!” This is the subject of Chris Anderson’s Astronomy Talk this Friday night at 7:15 at the Herrett Center. There are lots of rogue asteroids traveling around the solar system. Does one of them have our name on it? Chris will talk about how we track them, what the odds are that one could strike the Earth in our lifetime, and if there’s anything we can do about it. $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for kids. A free telescope viewing follows the Astronomy Talk if the sky is clear.

2.      The big CSI Ski Swap is this weekend.  The show runs from 3 to 10 p.m. this Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. It’s being held in the CSI Rec Center. Early bird tickets – 3 to 6 p.m. Friday - are $5. Admission to the rest of the show is $2. Lots of new equipment on sale, too!

3.      Comedian Heath Harmison will perform at the Fine Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Monday, the 19th. Heath was a CSI student about ten years ago until he realized that his talent for making people laugh was what he really wanted to do. Since then, he’s been touring the U.S., Canada, and Europe as a stand-up comedian and with a two-man improv act. Tickets are $7 general admission. (Doug will provide tickets to Town Square Media)

4.  ‘Cactus Truck,’ a 3-man Dutch Jazz Improv group, plays a free concert in the CSI Fine Arts Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Monday, the 19th.

5. The CSI Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. Registration will start at 8 a.m. near the CSI Taylor building. There will be prizes for runners and walkers who can guess closest to their race times. Each participant receives a backpack, hat, and pair of gloves from the event. Registration fee is $30 per person. All proceeds go to the CSI Physical Education Program.

6. The Herrett Center will hold two full afternoons of ‘Prehistoric Kid Crafts’ with Joey Heck on Friday and Saturday, November 23rd and 24th. Just drop in any time and make something! Joey will teach how to make ducks, deer, wolves, small bags, and more. It’s all free of charge – just drop in.
