The incident happened last month in Northern Utah, but has gained national attention this week due to the release of bodycam footage showing the rescue of five young children who were locked in a shed. Their father was found hiding in a car on the property and arrested.

The video is especially dramatic because the children rescued were so young, including two babies. Watch the rescue video below.

The rescue reportedly happened in the evening of November 15th into the morning of the 16th in Ogden, Utah, but the incident began earlier in the day. The mother of the children was arrested for shoplifting after she put clothing on the children in the store and had them remove the tags. She also hid items under a baby carrier in the cart. The father of the kids came to the store to take the children home. Police later found out the man had given them a fake ID and was wanted on a variety of charges.

Police went to the home and found the truck used to transport the children, but people in the area told them that the father, Wilber Rojas, was not there.

What You Don’t Know About the 5 Children Found Locked in a Shed in Utah

Police obtained a warrant to search the property, which is when they found the children locked in a shed. The kids were all young, aged 6, 5, 4, a 1-year-old, and an infant in a crib. You can see the heartbreaking rescue video below, edited by KSL News to cover language and private information. The rescue begins about 30 seconds into the video. The officers find Wilber hiding in a car around the 4-minute mark.

The video footage of the interior of the shed clearly shows that the kids had been living in the shed for an extended period of time. Why they were locked inside is being investigated.
