For Idaho hiking enthusiasts, one peak in particular in Custer County is the climbing mecca of the Gem State. Three friends recently summited the nearly 13,000-foot mountain and celebrated in a very familiar, thirst-quenching way.

Mt. Borah is perhaps best known to Idahoans as being the source of a deadly 1983 earthquake that measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale. The mountain is also the tallest peak in the state. Only 465-feet separate Mt. Borah (12,662) from the second, third, and fourth tallest  Idaho mountains, which are Leatherman Peak (12,280) Mt. Church (12,200), and Diamond Peak (12,197).

I enjoy the great outdoors immensely, but a mountain climber I'm not. The tallest landmark I've ever climbed was Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, but a lightning storm prevented me from reaching the final 400-feet to the top. Heights are my number one fear, but I could easily manage to climb a mountain with a gradual incline.

A recent YouTube upload was a lot of fun to watch. The channel Home in the Sierras shared the 12-minute video of three buddies climbing to the summit of Mt. Borah. It's an American custom I believe to crush a beer at the top of any peak. I don't care if we're talking about the Evel Knievel mound in Twin Falls, once you stand atop anything that offers a great view, shotgunning a brewski is a must.

Congrats to the three guys on their impressive climb. Thanks for showing us how it's done. Cheers!
