There are days when I think that I am an overprotective, crazy dad. And then I read stories about the parents who are crazier than I am and I feel better. These parents made me feel better about myself today.

The overprotective parents of America will not rest until they eliminate everything that you remember loving from childhood.  The latest target?  Hide-and-seek. Apparently, parents are now steering their kids away from hide-and-seek . . . because they think it makes them anti-social and vulnerable to predators? Here's the theory.  In hide-and-seek, kids are encouraged to be secretive.  They're encouraged to ignore people calling their name looking for them.  And they're encouraged to find secluded, hidden places.

I think this could be a game in itself - pick any game and try to find the way it corrupts our kids. Here are the ones I cam up with - and you can share yours in the comments.

Red Rover - This game teaches kids that it is OK for a group of children to pick on one kid, pretend they want him on their side...and then clothesline him when he comes over.

Monopoly - This one teaches our kids that investing in real estate is a good idea. We all know that is not true.

Go Fish - This innocent little card game teaches our kids that when you don't get what you want it is OK to leave and go fishing.

Old Maid - What is so bad about little old ladies? This game says you should avoid them and if you somehow end up one - you are a loser.

I'm not sure if that's going to make you ban your kids from playing hide-and-seek or any other games, but it's at least worth knowing that no matter how overprotective you are, there are always parents who are crazier out there.
