Boaters Still Missing In Waters East Of Twin Falls After 42 Yrs

Law enforcement in eastern Idaho still have no answers regarding a boating accident that happened in 1980 on a reservoir 200 miles from Twin Falls. The incident resulted in four missing persons ranging in age from six to 38 at the time.

The Idaho Missing Persons Clearinghouse archives cases statewide in a number of different categories on its website. Profiles of Idaho missing juveniles, endangered individuals and catastrophe cases are three such links that can be clicked on to learn the identities of these persons.

The catastrophe link currently lists five names of Idaho residents that have gone missing due to some unfortunate accident. Four of these people are linked together from the May 24, 1980 boating accident at Palisades Reservoir.

The locations of Larry Hill, 79, Rex Hill, 48, Laddie Schiess, 80, and Toni Schiess, 52, are still unknown after all these years. The ages listed with the names are how old they would be today. The group is presumed to have met their fate in the waters of the reservoir, according to details on the IMPC website.

Palisades Reservoir has 70 miles of shoreline, five campgrounds, and six boat ramps, and is located in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The United States Department of Agriculture has the closest town to the reservoir listed as Swan Valley, Idaho. The reservoir where the boaters went missing is near Palisades Dam, which is 55 miles southeast of Idaho Falls.

No details as to whether or not the boat was recovered following the accident that afternoon 42 years ago were shared on the website.
