Will the Magic Valley See a White Christmas This Year?
It's Christmas Eve, it's chilly outside, and there's a 100 percent chance of precipitation - but is it chilly enough for that moisture to fall as snow, or will it be a wet Christmas instead of a white one?
The good news is that Santa Clause is coming no matter what, it's just easier for him and the reindeer if there's snow.
What is the Christmas Eve Weather Forecast for the Magic Valley
We looked at the forecast from Weather.GOV and Weather.COM and both say we'll get precipitation. The further East you head from the Magic Valley, like Pocatello, Blackfoot, Soda Springs, Rexburg, and Island Park the better your chances of snow. Island Park is looking at 7 to 11 inches of snow by 5PM on Christmas Day and Pocatello is looking to get between 3 and 5 inches.
The forecast isn't as hopeful for the Magic Valley. Twin Falls is looking to get maybe 1 or 2 inches of snow. Around Twin, Burley and Shoshone could get around 2 inches and the South Hills could get significantly more snowfall than the valley.
So, when will the snow start falling? The forecast says we can expect a wintry mix starting at 8PM followed by mainly, and moderate, snow from about 10 to midnight. It won't amount to much, so depending on when you wake up and look outside will determine how much of a 'White Christmas' you get.
Looking beyond Christmas Eve, the Magic Valley could still see a little snow...but mostly rain is in the forecast.
Wednesday, Christmas Day, will be mostly sunny and 42 degrees. Thursday has a chance of snowy mix in the morning and evening but mainly rain during the day. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will all be filled with steady rain.
After Sunday and heading into the New Year, we'll only get sunshine mixed with clouds. No other precipitation is in the 10-day forecast.
