REPORT: Father Shot His Son and Himself at Nevada Airport 2 Hours From Southern Idaho
On Monday, April 13th, officers responded to a call from the Elko Regional Airport of a shooting. The call came in a few minutes after noon. When police arrived at the airport, they found an adult male dead near the ticket counter and a child in a bathroom with multiple gunshot wounds. The child was alive at the time, and lifesaving efforts were taken, but after transport to a local hospital, the young boy passed away. Police aren’t sure what caused the father to shoot his son and then himself.
The two were traveling together by car when the vehicle broke down near Winnemucca. They were taken to the Elko Regional Airport, where they seemingly planned to rent another vehicle. While at the airport, reports say the father and son entered the bathroom, came out for a moment, and then went back in, which is when the father shot the son.
The man then exited the bathroom, approached the ticket counter, and shot himself. The victims were identified as 37-year-old Giovanni Perez and 11-year-old Callan Perez.
