The Idaho State Police have been busy over the last few weeks as the weather warms up and more people are out on the roads. In the last seven days, they reported nine accidents, four of which were fatal.

A few of the crashes involved motorcycles, but more than half of them were semi-truck accidents. A more disturbing fact is that all five of the semi-truck-related accidents in the last week happened in the southeast part of the state. Three of them were within 5 miles of each other on an increasingly dangerous section of Interstate 15.

Thankfully, only one of the accidents involving a semi-truck last week ended with a fatality, and only two had injuries reported. A startling statistic from the crashes is that in three of them, the semi-truck was the only vehicle involved. This accident was also shared on social media by the Idaho State Police, but we did not receive a news reports about it.

Some people in the comment sections on social media wondered if the rise in semi accidents would continue as the speed limit for the big trucks is set to increase to 80 MPH in July.

Are people right to worry about the speed increase and possible dangers that could come from that? Or should we be happy that we might be less likely to get stuck behind a line of slow-moving trucks on the highway this summer?

Each of these semi-truck accidents happened in 2024 on Idaho roads.
