Accident and Death Toll on Idaho This Highway Makes it the Worst in the State
Pretty much every week, I receive messages from the Idaho State Police regarding injuries or fatal accidents on Idaho highways. While researching a recent grouping of vehicle vs pedestrian accidents, I noticed that a scary trend has been developing on an Idaho highway.
There’s even a specific section of the highway that seems to be getting worse. Surprisingly, the construction zone on I-84 north of Twin Falls isn’t the problem. It is ‘a’ problem, but another Southern Idaho highway has been steadily getting worse.
Why Interstate 15 in Idaho Has Become the Worst Road in the State
It isn’t a secret that Idaho is growing, but along with the population boom comes more cars on the road and more accidents. The internet doesn’t usually agree on many things, but users all around agree that Idaho traffic has gotten worse. We can’t even blame DUI or DWI as the cause of most accidents. It seems that most are due to excessive speed or distracted driving.
But speaking specifically about Interstate 15, construction zones and unfamiliar traffic changes appear to be a major concern. A search of recent accidents on I-15 gives us the following stories, also shown in a map below:
- Fatal Crash on I-15 near Pocatello

I-15 was ranked as the 4th deadliest roadway in Idaho earlier this year, using data from 2008 to early 2025. But the recent barrage of injuries and deadly accidents has to have moved it up the list overall, and definitely for 2025.
