Most parents know that doctors recommend children get 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night but have you ever done the math?

PopSugar and Wilson Elementary School in Kenosha, WI, did some research and found out exactly what time your child needs to go to bed according to how old they are, and what time they need to be awake. If you have little kids you may be surprised to see how early you have to get your child in bed.

If you child needs to be awake by 6:00am they need to be in bed by the following times:

  • 5 year olds by 6:45pm
  • 6 year olds by 7:00pm
  • 7 year olds by 7:15pm
  • 8 and 9 year olds by 7:30pm
  • 10 year olds by 8:00pm
  • 11 year olds by 8:15pm

If your child needs to be awake by 6:30am they need to be in bed by the following times:

  • 5 year olds by 7:15pm
  • 6 year olds by 7:30pm
  • 7 year olds by 8:00pm
  • 8 year olds by 8:00pm
  • 9 year olds by 8:15pm
  • 10 year olds by 8:30pm
  • 11 year olds by 8:45pm

If your child needs to be in awake up by 7:00am they need to be in bed by the following times:

  • 5 year olds by 7:30pm
  • 6 year olds by 8:00pm
  • 7 year olds by 8:15pm
  • 8 year olds by 8:30pm
  • 9 year olds by 8:45pm
  • 10 year olds by 9:00pm
  • 11 year olds by 9:15pm
