What Are the Chances Someone From ID Wins a Medal at the Olympics?
There will be a lot of winners at the Paris Summer Olympics, but there will be even more who lose. With 329 events happening across 39 different sports, and medals for gold, silver, and bronze - there will only be around 1,000 winners heading home with medals. That’s the way competition goes and the competition is strong in the Olympics.
There will be around 10,500 athletes this year competing in Paris. According to the Team USA roster, Idaho is only being represented by 2 of the world’s best athletes. Historically, Idaho hasn’t performed very well at the Olympics, with only 1 gold medal at the previous Summer Olympics.
Idahoans will play in the following sports:
- Boxing - Alyssa Mendoza from Caldwell
- Track and Field - Chari Hawkins from Rexburg
Idaho almost had a 3rd representative this year, but Peyton Bair failed to qualify at the USA Olympic Trials in June. Matteo Jorgenson will be competing in Cycling and has ties to Idaho, but the Team USA roster lists his hometown in California.
The schedule for the Olympics can be found on the NBC Olympics website. Games run from July 26th through August 11th.
