Airplane Crash in Idaho's Pettit Lake Injures 2 People
According to the press release from the Blaine County Sheriff, the crash happened on Sunday, October 13th just before noon at Pettit Lake.
An investigation of the crash scene determined that the pilot, a 76-year-old male from Sun Valley was sightseeing with a 64-year-old male passenger from Salt Lake City and attempted to ‘buzz’ the lake.
One of the wheels of the plane caught the water and caused the pilot to lose control. He attempted to pull up to compensate for the pull of the water but wasn’t able to regain air. The plane crashed into the lake. Depending on the depth of the crash location, the Forest Service will determine if the plane will left in the water or removed.

Both men were able to escape the plane before it sank in the lake. Boaters in the area were able to rescue them from the water and offer aid as they got them back to land and waited for first responders to arrive.
The men were then taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
