Police Investigate Threats Against Schools Across Idaho
Schools and Police across Idaho are investigating threats made that a group was planning a shooting at 16 different schools.
The threat was sent out on social media on Friday afternoon. TFSD sent this update on Saturday morning:
The Twin Falls Police have now identified the student who was responsible for sharing the social media post regarding a threat of violence toward our schools. The TFPD investigation determined that there is no credible threat. As an additional precaution, there will be added police presence near our campuses in the coming days. The student will also face disciplinary action according to TFSD policy.
Criminal charges could also be coming.
Social Media Threat to Shoot Up Twin Falls Schools
The threat specifically targets schools in Twin Falls, stating (spelling and grammar are corrected):
I'm going to shoot up schools next Monday or Friday...we are going to shoot up Elementary Schools first and then Middle Schools, probably High Schools...me and my boys are coming to 16 schools in Twin Falls.
Authorities immediately began investigating the threat and have deemed it to be one that has been circulating in various other parts of the state and that there is no credible danger to students.
Still, the Twin Falls School District is planning to increase police presence at schools as they monitor the situation. In an email to families and on social media, the school district stated:
Dear Twin Falls School District Families,
This evening, we received a report of a potential threat of violence directed at our schools that originated on social media. The Twin Falls Police Department is actively investigating the situation and has determined that this threat is being circulated in various communities across the state. Similar messages have been reported by other districts, and at this time, there is no specific or credible danger to our students.
As a precautionary measure, we will have an increased police presence on our campuses over the coming days. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will inform parents immediately if any new information becomes available or if the circumstances change.
While we are relieved that this does not appear to be a credible threat, it is crucial that we remain vigilant and take every report seriously. We encourage you to have a conversation with your student about this incident, emphasizing the importance of reporting any information or concerns that might affect the safety of our schools. Together, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on our campuses.
Some people online say the threat was made by a man named David Kanevski, but Twin Falls Police say he is not part of the threat.
