Amber Is One Of Over 180 Open Idaho Missing Persons Cases

Time is of the essence when a person goes missing. It's a well-known fact in law enforcement that the first 24 to 48 hours are crucial when it comes to locating someone safely.

When decades pass, it makes investigations that much more difficult, and a positive outcome is rarely the result. Detectives in Bonneville County have been trying to locate Amber Hoopes for nearly a quarter century. Hoopes was abducted on September 14, 2001.

There Are More Than 180 Active Missing Persons Cases In Idaho Including Amber Hoopes

The last time Amber was seen by family will be 25 years ago to the day on Monday. She was walking along a sidewalk in Idaho Falls around 2 A.M. on September 14 when the world lost contact with her.

Police did pursue suspects, but no arrests were made that resulted in her returning home, according to The Deck Podcast. Her family and friends still have no idea what happened to her.

Amber Hoopes is just one missing piece of the puzzle in Idaho. There are more than 180 open missing persons cases statewide, according to the Idaho State Police / Missing Persons Clearinghouse.

Several area businesses will be offering beverages in coffee sleeves that include information about missing people across the state of Idaho. These sleeves will be released on September 12, 2026, according to ISP.
