When it comes to finding things to do in the Magic Valley, it isn't hard to find entertainment, but what is a little more difficult is to find affordable entertainment. This isn't a Magic Valley issue, as everything seems to be going up in price no matter where you go. Life is getting expensive, so when you find free entertainment, it is the best. Some will keep it a secret, while others will share the good news to help those who need to get out of the house while saving money. There is free entertainment in the Magic Valley but if you wait too long, you will miss out on it for the rest of the year.

For those looking for something fun to do without spending money and enjoying some time with the family, there is one activity that every resident in the Magic Valley should do before it is too late. Heading back to the South Hills is always an adventure, but once the snow and winter weather hits, it can make it a little more difficult to get back to the South Hills for some fun. If you are wanting to enjoy the area one final time before winter weather, you are running out of time, but once back there, you can enjoy feeling like you are far from town, despite not having driven that far. There are plenty of free things to do once back there, but one particular beats them all.

Seeing Moose in the South Hills This Fall

While disk golf, hiking, camping, and four-wheeling are fun to do in the South Hills, one of the best things for residents who are not from Idaho to do is to go back and see if they can spot a moose. These animals are massive, yet hide in plain sight. One can be mere feet from you, without you noticing it or hearing it. The best times to see them are at sunrise and sunset, which is why taking a picnic dinner and enjoying the nice weather, the sun setting, and animal watching makes for a great free night this fall. Don't wait too long as the temperatures drop, the road conditions get worse and the animals are tougher to find. It is something everyone should experience at least once, especially when living so close to the South Hills.

While there is no guarantee that you will see a moose on your trip, you can't see one if you don't try. At worst, you get to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, have a picnic, and explore a little bit. Before you know it, the area will be filled with skiers and snowboarders, and your chance to spot these majestic animals will dip significantly until the spring. Take a fall drive and enjoy some free fun before the winter weather comes.
