Beware of Giants! Huge Record Setting Moose Caught North of Idaho

There are many large animals in Idaho, but one of the biggest and most intimidating has to be moose. They are large, aggressive, and incredible animals to see but are scary to come into contact with. There are very few people that can tag a moose each year, and it is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Tagging a moose is a great achievement for any hunter, but getting the biggest moose ever in the state is outright bragging rights.

Biggest Moose Ever Caught in Montana

The biggest moose ever caught in the state of Montana is a giant beast. When most hear the biggest moose, they likely think the tallest or heaviest, but moose are determined by their antlers. A man named C.M. Schmauch caught the biggest moose recorded in Montana back in 1952, and its antlers scored 195 1/8. While this is an impressive feat, it is incredible that nobody has surpassed this record in the last 70 years. There is plenty of moose in the state of Idaho, but can anyone beat the Montana record?

There are four different species of moose, and the smallest of the four, Shiras, is what roams the lands of Idaho. Beating the size of the moose in Montana would be tough to do in the state of Idaho, but that doesn't mean it is impossible. For anyone that has seen a moose in the Gem State, it might be baffling to find out those are the smallest kind because even they are intimidating and huge. The females do not have antlers, and seeing how females are most commonly spotted, it makes the challenge of beating this long record even tougher. It has been 71 years since the record in Montana was set, so the challenge is on to try and break the record. Going into the South Hills and finding a bull is not easy, let alone finding one that can break the Montana record. For those wondering, the Idaho state record is 150 inches. The fact that only so many tags are given out each year for moose makes this challenge tougher. We can't let Montana have bragging rights on us though. It is unacceptable.
