What would you do? What would you do if you woke up in the morning, got ready for work, went to head to your car, and found a moose standing in your driveway or on your front porch? What if you have an important flight to catch? Have to take your kids to school? What if you have an important meeting you can not miss at work? Moose are not known to be kind animals and would unlikely move by you saying please let me by. How do you handle the situation and how do you ultimately get out of your home safely and promptly, or do you? What would you do?

Moose on Front Porch in Twin Falls

While most moose in the area stay back in the South Hills and many stay within a five-mile radius most of their lives, there are times that they migrate from the mountains and down to lower lands, especially in the fall. It is not unheard of to have moose make their way into the Twin Falls area and the surrounding towns, and happens once or twice a year at a minimum it seems. If you happen to be in a situation where you come out and see one in front of your house, knowing these animals are often aggressive, what should you do and what would you do? Does the size and age of the moose matter? Does the location in your driveway or porch matter? There are a few things to take into account.

While panic may be the first reaction, it is smart to stay calm and head back inside your home. While you think you could make it to your car, the last thing you want to do is to spook it and have it run towards you. Even if the moose is younger and not fully grown, it should not change your plan of action. Call whomever you need to, and let them know you are going to be late, then call Fish and Game to notify them and sit patiently until the moose leaves on its own or until somebody arrives to help. Not many workplaces are going to tell you to risk it when an unpredictable and aggressive animal is waiting outside your front door.

This is a situation that you hope to never be in, but one that is possible. It is hard to not try and run to your car so you can get to work, your appointment, your flight, or wherever you are headed, but nothing is worth the risk of what could happen if the moose chooses to charge. I would think about risking it, but I would step inside and wait it out. Do not try to feed them, pet them, or ride them as tempting as all are. Be smart and try not to spook it. If the day comes when you have a moose saying good morning outside your front door, what would you do?
