What would you do? What would you do if you got a package delivered this holiday season that wasn't yours, but maybe something you want? What would you do if you have no return address and don't know how to find the right person? Do you keep it? Do you find a way to return it? Do you even open it to see what it is? While it is a felony to open somebody else's mail, that doesn't mean it isn't tempting, especially during the holiday season, so what would you do?

During the holiday season, there are so many packages being delivered daily that it is highly likely at some point one of yours won't show up or perhaps you will end up with one intended for someone else. The right thing to do is to resend it back to the return address, or if you know the person or the address it was intended for, to notify them or take it to them. It is against the law to open someone else's mail, but at Christmas time when certain packages have gone missing and you have a mystery present in front of you, it does become a little more tempting than any other time of year. Sometimes you may even know what is inside without even opening it, and that is where the dilemma is and your morals are tested.

This recently happened to a coworker of mine who received an unmarked package that he found out wasn't his, and he is in a dilemma about what to do with it. When a package is unable to be sent back and has your address by mistake, it does raise the question of whether you should keep it or go to the post office to notify them it isn't yours. We all know what the right thing to do is, but depending on the package, and knowing that nobody knows it was misdelivered to you, does make it tempting to keep. As far as opening somebody else's mail, there are so many packages being delivered this time of year, one of you may open it without even realizing it isn't intended for you until after. IF you like what is inside, it makes it more tempting to keep it for yourself.

The morale thing to do is to take any package back to the post office, find the correct neighbor, or send it back to the return address, but during the holiday season when many mistakes are bound to happen, it makes doing the right thing a little tougher. Finding something at your doorstep that was never intended for you can be fun and tempting. If a package arrives at your home that isn't yours and you like what's inside, what would you do?
