The Fort Knox of Idaho Just Opened and it’s Huge
The largest vault for precious metals storage in the United States just opened in Southern Idaho.
The new depository is twice the size of Fort Knox and could be expanded over time.
Money Metals Just Opened a Massive Gold Depository in Idaho
The depository is a 3-year, $28 million project of Money Metals that opened in mid-August of 2024. The vault at the Idaho location is designed to store precious metals, including gold and silver. The building sits at the base of the Boise Foothills, in Eagle. Eagle is known as a low-crime section of Idaho and the depository is near local city and county police services.
In case you were wondering, Money Metals suggests you don’t test out their security. The building utilizes advanced security, around-the-clock monitoring, and is protected by a team of former military and law enforcement.
The Largest Gold Vault in the US Just Opened in ID
So, how big is the vault? Money Metals lists the vault as a Class 3 (the highest possible rating for a vault) 9,000 square foot storage space. That’s twice as large as the famed Fort Knox in Kentucky which is less than 4,00 square feet.
The depository and fulfillment facility is 37,000 square feet on a 3.2-acre plot and can be expanded to 60,000 square feet in the future if needed. The current space is large enough to hold around $100 billion in metals according to Mining.com.
Money Metals was founded in 2010 and features gold, silver, and platinum on their website along with current market values. The company also boasts an A+ from the Better Business Bureau and a 4-star rating from customers.
