Public Invited to Comment on Draft Idaho Moose Management Plan

Idaho wildlife managers will include public input in a moose management plan that addresses declining populations of the large animal in some parts of the state.

The public has until Jan. 12, to comment on the proposed Moose Management Plan of 2020-25, according to the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The agency said managers are looking at the causes of declining moose populations and how to reverse those trends. The management plan guides Idaho Fish and Game for six years and the final draft, with public input included, will be submitted to the Fish and Game Commission in March next year.

Some of the strategies considered in the plan includes a collaboration with private landowners and other land management groups "to incorporate measures in land use and resource management plans that benefit moose." Also, another proposal would improve the quality of moose population monitoring information and create guidelines for relocating moose to other areas.
