RECALL: Listeria Contaminated Ready-to-Eat Chicken Products
We haven't had a high risk food recall issued since June of this year. But this year has been filled with food recalls, especially in June. In just that one month there were food recalls on raspberries, avocados, baby formula, flour, sausages, and mixed fruits. The newest food recall involves Tip Top Poultry, ready-to-eat poultry products. The recall includes an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat poultry products that may be contaminated with listeria. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service made the announcement in late September to warn consumers of the danger. The ready-to-eat frozen cooked, sliced, and shredded chicken products were produced between January 21 and September 24, 2019 and will bear the number 'Est. P-17453' inside the USDA inspection stamp. Product codes range from 10000 to 19999 and 70000 to 79999.
The contamination was discovered by tests in Canada, according to the USDA website, and no confirmed adverse cases have been reported due to eating the product. Listeria is an infection that is primarily an issue for elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women.
See pictures of the recalled product in this Tip Top list plus locations that received the possibly tainted poultry on this spreadsheet. Reports show that Idaho isn't a state that received any of the ready-to-eat chicken products but Utah and Colorado are on the list. There are currently more that 1,000 product alerts on the FDA website.
