Early Tuesday morning, reports say a man was running through traffic on Interstate 15 in Idaho Falls.

The pedestrian was hit by a semi-truck and passed away at the scene of the accident. The incident is being investigated.

Police Report Fatal Semi Truck vs Pedestrian Accident in Idaho Falls

Idaho State Police reported that the accident happened around 5:30 AM on Tuesday, July 21st, on I-15 at mile marker 116. The pedestrian was reportedly running through traffic in the northbound lanes when the accident happened. Mile marker 116 on I-15 is the W33rd Street/Sunnyside Road/Highway 26 interchange to Ammon, south of Idaho Falls.

  • A 25-year-old male from Pocatello was running through traffic on I15.
  • A 2024 Volvo semi-truck, driven by a 28-year-old male from Manitoba, Canada, was driving northbound on Interstate 15 when he attempted to avoid the male running through traffic.

The semi truck struck the pedestrian, and he passed away at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the accident.

Police are investigating the accident to understand why the man was running on the highway and if there are any other factors at play.

This is the 3rd vehicle vs pedestrian accident in the last few weeks. ISP reported 2 pedestrian-involved accidents last week. Those happened in Meridian and Nez Perce County on July 12th and 13th. Somehow, neither of those pedestrians were killed in the accidents, though one was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
