If You Missed the Idaho Evel Knievel Event You Have to See This Video

It has been 50 years (this Sunday, September 8th) since the great daredevil Evel Knievel came to Twin Falls to attempt a massive jump across the Snake River Canyon.

Some people remember it as an historic event that set a new bar for adrenaline junkies and a few still think of it as the time Knievel came to Twin Falls, made a mess, and never paid the city back. But, either way, the world is still talking about the jump attempt.

I’ve walked the trail in Twin Falls that takes you to the jump site a few times. Sometimes I stand at the bottom of the mountain of dirt that was his launch site and other times I’ll climb the hill to see the view…and to wonder what it was like for Knievel when he launched from that ground.

One of the videos from the event gives you a tiny taste of what that would have looked like from the Evel perspective.

There was also a second video that you need to see from the event. This was a planned bike jump into the canyon. According to the video post on the Evel Knievel Facebook page, Kyle Miller launched into the canyon in a fashion that would have made Knievel proud. Miller also didn’t make it across the canyon, but that wasn’t the plan this time.

How to Get to the Evel Knievel Jump Site in Twin Falls, Idaho

There are a few ways to get to the Evel Knievel jump site in Twin Falls. One takes you on a nice, longer walk through a beautiful neighborhood and along the Canyon Rim Trail and the other is a shorter straight shot from a parking lot. There’s a third, more difficult, route if you want to hike up about 2 miles from the Shoshone Falls.
