You know there's something wrong with a system that allows this stuff to happen!  When we adopted our son it was a flawless/smooth event.  I understand that it is rarely that way.  Obviously if a pregnant woman decides to keep her baby, that is her right - but if its a surrogate and not really her baby (I know there will be a difference of opinion on that) how can she keep the kid and still get money from the real parents?  It’s the nightmare most parents fear when they decide to use a surrogate mother: the surrogate ends up retracting her offer post-pregnancy and you’re left with a bill and no baby. All devastating heartache aside, this particular case one-ups that horror of a nightmare scenario.

Because the father’s sperm was used to create the child, a UK judge has ordered the grieving couple to pay roughly $785 (£500) a month on top of the £4,500 they originally doled out to cover the surrogacy expenses.

Though it seems like the surrogate is breaking the law, there are no legal-binding documents that require her to hand over the baby in a case like this. The child is now eight months old.
