Video from a scary accident was recently released that shows a young driver crashing a Tesla into water barrels on a highway east of Seattle.

The driver was uninjured and comments on social media think the punishment by law enforcement, a negligent driving citation, isn’t enough.

The video shows a black SUV and a black Tesla driving at speeds above the other cars around them. The Tesla cuts across multiple lanes before striking the water-filled construction barrels on the right side of the highway. Just before the crash, you can also see the black SUV cut into the lane of the Tesla.

Road conditions on northbound I-405 near the NE 85th interchange east of Seattle were already unfavorable, as you can see water on the road in the video. The video doesn’t clarify the role of the SUV in the situation - whether the 2 vehicles were together, racing, fighting, or just both driving recklessly near each other. The post on X also doesn’t say if the black SUV was given any sort of citation or warning following the incident.

Watch the video of the crash below or on X.

The first time I watched the video, I thought the car had exploded as water and parts of the barrel flew into the air, but what I thought was a flame was an orange barrel. KEYW says the water shot up around 100 feet into the air. Check out their story for more details on the accident and upcoming construction in the area.

The video was posted on social media by Trooper Rick Johnson, but appears to be footage from the built-in cameras of another Tesla that was in the area and sent to police as evidence.

Tesla vehicles and dealerships have been vandalized with growing frequency over the last few weeks. Some peaceful protests have even turned violent, as seen in a recent weekend protest in Idaho.

I-405 had at least 2 other accidents last week due to DUI incidents, as shared by WSDOT Traffic. One was in Bellevue and the other in Bothell.

There are 2 Tesla dealerships south of the accident in Bellevue near I-405.
