Remember When the Top Gear Team Came to the Utah Salt Flats?

I have always loved cars.

I prefer driving them but I am also constantly working at earning a (not actually) certified mechanic degree from watching YouTube videos. And speaking of YT videos, I just came across an old episode of the British version of Top Gear where they came to the US to drive American Muscle Cars.

First of all, the 3 hosts of Top Gear are hilarious as can be seen at the beginning of the video when one of them takes the team RV for a morning joyride…while one is in the bathroom and the other is still in bed. You can watch the video in a moment.

A really cool part of the video is the location. I grew up in Salt Lake City, yet the first time I ever went to the Bonneville Salt Flats was about 3 years ago when I took the scenic, and long, route from Twin Falls, ID to the SLC.

What a surreal place.

And what an epic episode they filmed in 2008 with their Muscle Car Challenge in season 12. Watch them break records and try interesting tactics to gain speed in the episode below.

Now I want to go back to the Salt Flats and see how fast my little 274-horsepower Hyundai Sonata can go. Maxing out at 35 on Blue Lakes Blvd in Twin Falls is the opposite of fun.
