There’s a road in the northern part of Utah with special rumble strips that make music when you drive over them.

If you’re ever driving south on I-84 near Tremonton, hang out in the left lane before Exit 40 for a special audio treat.

There’s a Road in Northern Utah That Plays a Song, Kind of

I have family that lives in the Salt Lake City area so I make the trip from Idaho to Utah pretty often, and every time I do, I make sure I’m in the left lane as I approach Tremonton (about 30 minutes from the Idaho border).

For the last few years, there has been a section of road with white and yellow strips perpendicular to the highway in the left lane. When you drive over the lines it makes sounds in different tones - and it sounds like music.

But I could never figure out what song it was supposed to be. It turns out it’s not a song and you can hear it in the video below.

The strips are a test to see what kind of paint and markings stand up best against the harsh Utah winters. 12 different production companies installed around 800 lines for the test section.

There are 2 sections of paint striping so even if you miss the first set, you can still get over before the exit to hear them.

You can even see the lines in the satellite view of the highway.

Since the road doesn’t play a song, it can’t be as cool as this road that plays the William Tell Overture in California.
