Over the weekend, a tragic accident happened at the Twin Falls Dam. Members of the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Dive Team recovered the body of a teen.

Authorities used ‘side scan sonar’ and located the body of the 19-year-old male. Divers entered the water and retrieved the young man.

Drowning Victim Recovered From Twin Falls Recreation Area

The Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office’s social media post states that no additional information will be released at this time.

When the story was originally released on social media and some news sites, there was confusion about the location of the drowning. Many sources and comments said it was the Twin Falls Dam, but they confused that location with either Centennial Waterfront Park or the Shoshone Falls Park.

The Twin Falls Dam is located at the Twin Falls Power Plant Park, upstream from both the Shoshone Falls and Centennial Park. The location is verified in the second picture from the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office post on Facebook.

The news report from KMVT says that the young man fell out of the boat and never re-emerged. The accident happened on Sunday, August 31st, around 5:30 PM. The body was recovered at 6:57 PM by the Search and Rescue Dive Team.

I was down at the Twin Falls Power Dam on Saturday, boating with my family and some friends. At one point, one of the young girls in our group entered the water without a life jacket to ride on a tube. Thankfully, people on the boat noticed and got her a jacket so she could ride safely.

When on a boat in Idaho, you legally have to have a life jacket available, no matter how old you are or how well you can swim. Children 14 and under have to wear their life jackets at all times on a boat.
