University of Idaho to Close Caldwell Veterinary Center

CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — The University of Idaho is closing the Caine Veterinary Teaching Center near Caldwell.

University officials announced the closure Wednesday, saying it is part of an overall shift in approach for educating veterinary students. The school has moved resources away from animal research and diagnostic services in Caldwell over the last decade.

Faculty positions at the Caine Center will move to the Caldwell Research and Extension and to the Moscow campus. The Caine Center opened in 1977 as part of the University of Idaho's commitment to the Washington-Oregon-Idaho Regional Veterinary Education Program. Oregon withdrew from the program in 2005.

UI is now part of the Washington, Idaho, Montana and Utah Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine with Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
