A highway accident in central Utah uncovered a disturbing situation for two young girls after they were found in the cooled trailer of a refrigerated truck.

A brother of the girls was driving the truck when he was involved in an accident. Police were called to the scene, and the girls were discovered following an inspection of the truck.

Reports say that the girls, 12 and 14 years old, were discovered after the accident when an inspector saw eyes looking through a small opening in the trailer while photographing the crash. The internal temperature of the refrigerated trailer was reported at 30 degrees with the girls inside. Inside the trailer, responders also found bedding.

The truck was coming from Huntington, which is about two hours from the location of the accident, and the girls had been in the freezing trailer the entire time. The trailer door was secured from the outside, so there was no way for the girls to get out on their own.

Various reports state that the family was headed to Salt Lake City so the two young homeschooled girls could take a test and meet up with a family member who needed help. The driver failed to stop in time to slow traffic on the highway, which is what caused the accident.

Police arrested the driver on ‘suspicion of aggravated child abuse’. The driver was also taken to a local hospital with a hand injury. Neither young girl reported any injuries from the crash.
