
Huge Lawsuit Filed Against Business With Stores in 21 Idaho Cities
A national chain that was already dealing with money problems is now facing legal issues.
The lawsuit was filed by the United States Department of Justice on January 16th, 2025. The lawsuit claims the national pharmacy failed to follow responsible practices when dispensing prescriptions.
Walgreens Pharmacy With Locations in 21 Idaho Cities Facing Massive Lawsuit
The DOJ filed a lawsuit against Walgreens and its subsidiary branches for ‘dispensing millions of unlawful prescriptions’ beginning in August of 2012 until now. These prescriptions included controlled substances which the DOJ believes contributed to the opioid epidemic and possibly deaths due to overdoses.
In the lawsuit claims are made that Walgreens' corporate management is to blame after forcing pharmacists to quickly fill prescriptions without properly checking their validity or necessity. Point 9 of the introduction states:
Walgreens also fostered a corporate culture wherein pharmacists who diligently observed their responsibility to verify the legitimacy of controlled-substance prescriptions were subject to reprimand.

Walgreens has more than 8,000 pharmacy locations including dozens in 21 Idaho cities.

The lawsuit filing is 300 pages long and can be read online. It claims pharmacists contributed to the opioid epidemic and overdose related deaths due to negligent practices and failure to properly vet prescriptions.
