Shenghua Wen, a 41-year-old male living illegally in Ontario, California, was arrested after law enforcement seized 2 high tech devices, 50,000 rounds of ammunition, and found incriminating evidence of smuggling on Wen’s cellphone.
The 2 devices found at Wen’s home were a chemical threat identification device and a receiver to detect eavesdropping devices that he intended to send to North Korea for military use. CNN called the selling of the items to North Korea helping them ‘prepare for a surprise attack on South Korea’.
Wen came to the US on a student visa that had expired, which is why he is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. He also doesn’t have a proper license to sell the items seized by law enforcement.
The press release was posted on the DOJ website on December 3rd while the criminal complaint affidavit was filed on November 26th. The full release can be read on the U.S. Department of Justice site.
