What would the holidays be without the smell of homemade cookies billowing from the kitchen? On Christmas Eve, my wife recreated a batch of peanut butter blossom cookies from a recipe she obtained that dates back to the 1940s.

Now, I'm not someone who eats a lot of cookies, but I can honestly say, this was one of the best I've ever had.

The recipe came from a woman named Lyla Lange, who passed away in 2008. Lange moved to Twin Falls from Nebraska in the late 20s, when she was a young girl. She worked as a seamstress for most of her life, as well as being employed by Sears, on Main Street, for a number of years in the 50s.

My wife was given permission by the family to share this recipe, which she followed to a tee Sunday night, penned in Lange's own handwriting.

What separates this creation from your plain, average peanut butter cookie, is the addition of the Hershey kiss, baked right into the middle (the "blossom"). This essential ingredient was created by the Hershey Company in 1907, according to information found on Wikipedia.

This is a cookie you must try. Enjoy!
