RIVERDALE, Utah (AP) — Firefighters have rescued a 4-year-old boy who was trapped in a gun safe at a Riverdale sporting goods store after employees couldn't figure out the safe's combination.

The Deseret News reports the boy was found in good condition Sunday after being locked inside the safe for about 15 minutes. Employees of the store had called fire crews after the boy entered the unlocked gun safe and shut himself inside. Fire Capt. David Ermer says rescuers obtained a code from the safe's manufacturer and were able to open it without using any tools.

He says firefighters had put oxygen into the safe to make sure the boy had air while rescuers worked to release him. Ermer says the child was assessed by a medical crew but didn't require additional care.
