Idaho State Police responded to an injury accident on a Southern Idaho highway near Fort Hall on Sunday morning.

The accident was reportedly caused by an elk in the roadway.

Dead Elk on Idaho Highway Causes Injury Accident Near Fort Hall

In the report from the Idaho State Police, they state that the accident happened on March 30th on I-15 near mile marker 84 at 6:01 AM.

Along with assistance from the Fort Hall Fire Department and Blackfoot Emergency Medical Services, the Idaho State Police assisted those involved in the accident and helped clear the scene.

Regarding the accident, the ISP News Release states:

A 2004 Toyota Tacoma, traveling southbound on I15, came upon a dead elk in the roadway. The driver hit the elk, lost control, and left the roadway. The Toyota overturned in the median when it hit the emergency vehicle crossover.

The driver of the Tacoma was a 62-year-old man from Rigby. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

ISP continues to investigate the accident.

Idaho State Police hadn’t reported an injury or fatality accident since March 22nd in Yellow Pine, where a 62-year-old man was killed after hitting a tree. His passenger, a 59-year-old female, was injured and taken to a local hospital.
