Winds have been intense today around the Pacific Northwest, with gusts causing property damage, power loss, and even injuring people.

Reports have been coming in of massive wind gusts, and pictures of damage caused by the wind have been shared online. And while Idaho is known as a windy state, Washington has us beat with the current storm.

Which State Had Stronger Winds Today, Idaho or Washington

The wind has been wreaking havoc in multiple states, but according to a recent report from AccuWeather, Coldwater Ridge in Washington has been hit the hardest. Mount Hood in Oregon was close behind, but with a wind gust blowing through at 142 miles per hour in Washington made the top of the list.

Two other locations in Washington have had gusts over 100 miles per hour today.

The wind has caused power outages and property damage in multiple states. Idaho has had significant wind gusts reported, but a current report shows a max of 84 miles per hour in Lewiston.

Idaho and Washington Record Hurricane-Level Wind Speeds With Current Storm

To put those speeds into perspective, when compared to wind speed classifications for a hurricane, 84 mph qualifies as a category 1, and 142 mph would qualify as a catastrophic category 4.

The storms also brought rain, snow, and hail to many areas.

The wind blew down trees in many areas and a downed tree severely injured two children in Twin Falls, ID who were waiting for a school bus. The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office posted the reports and pictures of the scene on social media.

Authorities remind members of their communities to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid areas with large or aging trees during wind storms.
