If you're like me and live in a Twin Falls neighborhood that runs off pressurized irrigation water from Twin Falls Canal Company, your water supply is about to be cut off.

According to the City of Twin Falls, the Twin Falls Canal Company will close its irrigation diversion gates at Milner Dam on Monday, October 19, 2026. This will end the seasonal water deliveries to the canal system.

After that, the city will begin shutting down and winterizing its pressurized irrigation stations.

If you live in a subdivision connected to the city's pressurized irrigation system, you won't receive irrigation water again until next spring, typically sometime in April.

Irrigation Shut Off in Twin Falls, 2026

Not every subdivision in Twin Falls uses pressurized irrigation water from the Canal Company. Homes in older neighborhoods tend to use city water. The city has an online list that lets you check the status of your neighborhood's pressurized irrigation station.

You can check the City of Twin Falls Pressurized Irrigation Station Status page here.

Winterizing Your Sprinkler System in Idaho

If you’re new to Idaho, you might not know that shutting turning off your sprinklers is only the first step. If you haven't already winterized your sprinkler system, you’ll want that done sooner rather than later.

The city shuts off the supply but you are responsible for maintaining and winterizing your own sprinkler system. Just because the city has turned off the irrigation water doesn't mean your sprinklers are protected from freezing.

There are a few things you'll want to take care of before temperatures drop below freezing.

  • Turn off your pressurized irrigation valve. It's generally located near the sidewalk in front of your home and should remain off throughout the winter.
  • Turn off your automatic sprinkler timer. Set your controller to its winter or off setting.
  • Remove remaining water from your sprinkler lines. Water left in pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads can freeze, potentially causing expensive damage.
  • Consider having your sprinklers professionally winterized. If you know what you’re doing, it’s not very hard to blow out your sprinklers for winter. But there are plenty of qualified pros in the Twin Falls area that can do it for you.

What is Pressurized Irrigation?

Pressurized irrigation is a water conservation effort that makes a pretty significant difference.

According to the city, pressurized irrigation reduces demand on the aquifer by more than 5 million gallons of water per day during the summer months.

And a special heads-up to Gen Xers who used to drink from the hose. Pressurized irrigation water is untreated and not safe for drinking.
