The New York Times is reporting that Leonard Nimoy, Star Trek's 'Mr. Spock,' has passed away at the age of 83.

From the New York Times:

Leonard Nimoy, the sonorous, gaunt-faced actor who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died on Friday morning at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. He was 83.

As a life-long Trekkie, the news that Leonard Nimoy has passed breaks my heart. The impact that Star Trek and Nimoy had on my life is almost immeasurable. I remember watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with my mom in 1982 and both of us crying our eyes out when Spock sacrificed his life to save his family and friends on the Enterprise (for the record, I still cry).

I think Captain Kirk's eulogy from Star Trek II is the best way to sum up Nimoy's life and career:

Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... [voice breaks] human.

Leonard Nimoy will be dearly missed. God's speed Leonard.
